High Performance FKM O-Ring — Black, Brown, Green Color Options — Heat & Oil Resistant Seal

An O-ring, also called a packing or toric joint, is a mechanical gasket shaped as a torus — a loop of elastomer with a round cross-section. It is designed to sit in a groove and be compressed during assembly between two or more parts, forming a seal at the interface.

O-rings can be used in static applications as well as dynamic ones, where relative motion occurs between the parts and the O-ring. Common dynamic examples include rotating pump shafts and hydraulic cylinder pistons.

As one of the most widely used seals in machine design, O-rings are inexpensive, easy to manufacture, reliable, and simple to install. They are capable of sealing pressures of tens of megapascals (thousands of psi).

Features

High fluorine grades offer greater resistance to swell in high-octane and oxygenated fuel blends, delivering superior performance in ethanol- and methanol-blended gasoline. Base-resistant grades provide improved resistance to amine-based oil protectants found in new transmission oils, as well as better resistance to steam for higher-temperature service. Low-temperature bases can improve performance down to -40°F.

Newly offered polymers provide improved chemical resistance and low-temperature performance. FKM® Extreme™ ETP offers chemical compatibility similar to Kalrez™, with temperature performance featuring a TR(10) of -40°F and brittleness down to -76°F.

Limitations

Fluorocarbons (FKM) are not recommended for exposure to ketones, amines, low molecular weight esters and ethers, nitro hydrocarbons, hot hydrofluoric or chlorosulfonic acids, or Skydrol fluids. They are also not recommended for situations requiring good low-temperature flexibility.
