Introduction for O Rings
An O-ring, also known as a packing, or a toric joint, is a mechanical gasket in the shape of a torus; it is a loop
of elastomer with a round cross-section, designed to be seated in a groove and compressed during assembly
between two or more parts, creating a seal at the interface.
The O-ring may be used in static applications or in dynamic applications where there is relative motion between
the parts and the O-ring. Dynamic examples include rotating pumpshafts and hydraulic cylinder pistons.
O-rings are one of the most common seals used in machine design because they are inexpensive, easy to make,
reliable, and have simple mounting requirements. They can seal tens of megapascals (thousands of psi) of pressure.
Function of the rubber o ring

O-ring for installation on a variety of machinery and equipment, at a specified temperature, pressure, and various
liquid and gaseous media, at rest or in motion from the seal. On the machine, marine, automotive, aerospace
equipment, metallurgical machinery, chemical machinery, engineering machinery, construction machinery, mining
machinery, petroleum machinery, plastic machinery, agricultural machinery, and a variety of instruments, a large
number of applications for various types of seals elements. O-ring is mainly used for static seals and reciprocating
seals. For rotational movement of the seal when limited to low-speed rotary sealing device. O-ring is usually
installed on the outer or inner circle from the seal section is rectangular trench. O-ring seals still play a good shock
absorption in oil, acid, wear, erosion and other environmental chemistry. Therefore, O-ring hydraulic and pneumatic
drive system most widely used a seal .

For Silicones the service temperatures are from -60 ℃ to 225 ℃. Some special types can be used in extreme
temperatures up to 300 ℃ and down to -100 ℃.
