Product Description

O Ring Cord is a continuous, extruded solid round rubber cord stock supplied in rolls. Unlike finished closed O-rings, this sealing cord can be cut to any required length and spliced on-site to create non-standard, large-size O-ring seals. Multiple rubber materials are available — including NBR, FKM, EPDM and Silicone — to match different working media and temperature environments. It is an economical solution for static sealing where standard molded O-rings cannot meet size requirements.

How O Ring Cord Achieves Its Sealing Function

Cords are extruded as open-ended billets of circular cross-section, similar to an O-ring. The cord achieves its sealing effect through the deformation of its cross-section once installed, when compressed within the installation housing. Under operational conditions, the pressure exerted by the medium reinforces the sealing function.

Typical Applications

The primary application for cords is as the basic material for joined O-rings.
They are handled and applied in a similar way to standard O-rings.
Used as static seals, for example for sealing larger pipe unions and as cover seals in container construction.
Frequently used for on-site repairs, being joined together to provide customized dimensions.

Material Characteristics of O Ring Cord

NBR O Ring Cord

Good chemical resistance to mineral oils and greases, hydraulic oils H, HL and HLP, non-inflammable hydraulic pressure fluids HFA, HFB and HFC up to approx. +50 °C, and water up to max. +80 °C.

FKM O Ring Cord

Good chemical resistance to mineral oils and greases, synthetic oils and greases, and engine, transmission and ATF oils up to approx. +150 °C.

EPDM O Ring Cord

Good resistance to hot water and steam, detergents, caustic potash solutions, silicone oils and greases, many polar solvents, and many diluted acids and chemicals, along with a high level of ozone resistance.

Silicone O Ring Cord

Good resistance to water (up to 100 °C), aliphatic engine and transmission oils, and animal and plant oils and fats.
